HAY, SUN AND HORSES

"Roo" & "Preacher" "Yes Mom, may I help you??"

Keeping his eye on me!

Well, I will start off by saying I watch our horses all day. I am blessed to have acreage right behind our house and I can pretty much see them all day. Having said that, I was in the kitchen washing dishes and looked out to see "Roo" at the hay and "Preacher" laying in it! Well, I do not care how long we have had horses, the sight of a lay ed out horse makes my heart stop. All of our horses sun, even knowing that I watch them and make sure they eventually get up and about. I finished the dishes and he is still lay ed out flat, well I can't stand it anymore and out I go to check on him. As I get closer "Roo" looks up and quits eating-he looks at me and decides I may want something and he walks off, still nothing from "Preacher." I get right up to him and I can see he is breathing. So I decide to take pictures, he hears the camera and lifts his head like "What mom??" Then lays back down and proceeds to watch me with one eye to see what I am going to do. I decide to take more pictures! Of course since I am there I check his gums, pulse and make sure he has good gut sounds. (since I am there and I am that way!!) He is fine, he was just sunning and had a nice little bed right there in the hay!! I tend to error on the safe side, my horses are four legged children!!

I think it's safe to say anyone gets an uneasy feeling when they see their horses laying down...It's the whole baby in the crib thing...except its the constant paranoia of a horse laying down withthe underlying fear of colic. I make my hubby leave one of the flood lights on from the tack barn so that my retarded butt can look out at night and still see them from the house. Is that pushing it? Your "kids" look like they are having a blast though!
I'm still at work so no riding for me today! I'm supposed to go pick up an aussie pup tonite. Its a surprise for hubs. He's been wanting a heeler or an aussie to work cattle with. A gal at my sons pre-school has 3 male pups left. I'm takin a tri-color with two different color eyes. I cant wait to see his face later lol. Will be riding tomorrow for sure! Cows have started calving yay! Have a wonderful weekend :0)

LOL, I am that way with our cattle. Calves often like to sun themselves but not when I am around!

Gorgeous horses! I'm the same way, they lay down and I'm on red alert. Like yours, mine like to sun. It's disconcerting to look out and see more than one horse laying down.
Love the pics though :) You are blessed to have such a view every day. How do people in the city live w/o it? I will never understand..
Oh yes, and I got the big lecture from Wade bout the brake slipping. You're right, next time I'm not going to tell him :) Sure wish we COULD all get together.
Hey, have you checked out Bossy's road trip? http://iambossy.typepad.com/
we should do that. With horses! Go visit other bloggers, ride w/them.
I'm onto something!!!

We boarded our horses before we ever moved them to our house and after we moved them, I moved in a whole new set of worries too! But I wouldn't trade it for anything!!!

Glad everyone was ok!
