BLACKJACK LAND & CATTLE COMPANY: YOU NEVER KNOW!

YOU NEVER KNOW!

Out in the country you never know what you may run into. Well this morning I was out at the barn getting ready to clean it up some. We have a junk pile in there and I was going to tackle it. But when I went in the barn the hen that is sitting out there was not herself. She is used to us being out there and never does anything. So I started looking around for the cause. Well didn't see anything right off the bat, but decided I would pick up the piece of tin laying right on top of junk pile. You know what I found? A huge snake! So I put it back down and went to the house to get the gun. Came back lifted up tin and killed the snake.

Then I tortured the snake! You see were I blasted him? But you know they do not die right away. They still move and such. So moral of the story always be on the lookout for anything, you never know! And a girl's best friend is her gun!
Here "Preacher" is checking it out to see what I had! **Notice in this picture he is not stretched out? He was still moving! I then put him in a feed bucket (Savannah will want to see it when she gets home from school) and got to cleaning. Every one of the horses came up and checked to see what was in the bucket. Then they began pestering me! Taking stuff out of the bed of the truck, trying to get into the barn with me, etc. They are saying around here snakes are going to be bad this year! Yeh think???

Yes ma'am...a girl's best friend is definitely her gun. Good thing you found him before he got your eggs.

Amen to our Second Ammendment Right! ;)

We had BAD snake issues 2 years ago. Being on the lake here, the copperheads decided to try and take over. One had the nerve to CHASE my Pop in law UP the bank and across the yard. Can we say BANG in unison here?

Normally, I like to leave them be, But with 2 little kids, old people, 2 blind neighbors, and several dogs roaming around in various stages of their lives, PLUS the horses now, well.... if it slithers and tries to come get us, it gets relocated to snake Heaven.

Glad you got him before he got got Savannah or your hen!

Oh. My. Gosh! That snake was trying to attack you while it was shot in half!!! I am totally freaking out right now!!!!!!!!! Not gonna be able to sleep tonight - nightmares of snakes with half bodies killing me. *shudder*
By the way, a trick I learned when living in TN. We sprayed gasoline around the barn (after clearing it of snakes) to prevent snakes from getting in and it actually works. For whatever reason, they would not cross the gasoline.

Yuck! that just gives me the creeps. Glad we don't have snakes that big here. I am such a chicken when it comes to snakes.

I REALLY do not care for snakes! I can handle alot but for some reason I do not like snakes. I love hearing about women and their guns! I only have 1 of my own...the rest we all share.

It is a chicken snake! Hubby has been giving me flack for where I shot him. Why didn't you go for closer to his head, he asked. Well, when I picked up the tin to shoot him, he started burying in some old hay. And I didn't want him to get away, so I shot him to stop him and then pulled him out and finished him off. I went out this morning and no snakes, so maybe it will be a couple of days before anymore show up!

Oh gross! Sometimes I AM glad that we have lots of snow, it sure discourages the snake population! We don't have anything dangerous here anyhow, just garter snakes that eat mice and bugs.

I agree snakes are gross! My hubby bought me a little 4/10 so I can shoot them without blowing them across the backyard. I am all for shooting them, especially because of the girls. Our dog got bit 2 years ago by a rattler, but she survived.

I would have died of a heart attack right there on the spot. I'm such a girly girl when it comes to snakes. I'll whack a spider anyday, but snakes? Ewwww. Ewwww. and ewwww. You're my hero!

Wow! I think that one looks bigger than the one we saw! I would've loved to have seen you hustling across the pasture with your gun, ready to shoot that snake! I can't get a picture of it in my mind! :-) Glad you can take care of yourself! I hope the snakes won't be terrible this summer.

P.S. Snakes...maybe that's the reason Dad won't come over! Hehe :-) Just sayin....

Love ya,
Jen :-)
