Yesterday was the first draining that we have done at home. When I started gathering up the things I was going to need, Savannah asked what are we doing? When I told her she said okay, let me get the camera! (she is so in to taking pics!) After I got done she asked you are going to post these pics I took aren't you?!?!?! (we have a future blogger in the making!!) I got out about as much stuff as the vet did and it still appears to be deep. I used a 14 gauge 1 1/2 inch needle and it was all the way in. The swelling on the bottom of her neck is lessening, so that is good. Feeding this morning the abscess is swelling again, so I may try and drain again this evening. (the vet wanted us to do it Friday and Monday) I am so blessed that she is so good with treatments! I wish Savannah had gotten a picture of her face, she is asleep! Thanks for all your sweet thoughts and concerns about her, that means so much to me. I will keep you posted! Hope everyone has a great weekend!
**BTW-the scar above the abscess on her neck is a old wound, didn't want you to think that was part of it. She has another one on the other side of her neck. When she was a foal a gelding picked her up by her neck.**

Glad she is doing better. Lucky you to have a horse that takes such treatments so well. Bet it has a lot to do with the relationship you two have. :)
Funny about the scar on her neck. I have a mare that has one too-from the same thing.
She looks like she's doing good!
What a good, patient horse you have there while you do all that needlework and draining. She knows you are helping her out!!
Sweet Angel! I'm glad she is getting better. She is lucky to have someone who loves and cares for her the way you and your family do.
She sure is being good, bless her heart! I feel so bad for her. We had shots on Friday and so far everyone looks good, I am so thankful!!!! She must really trust you to stand there so good and let you work on that. Good Girl!
Glad your mare is on the mend. I have heard stories about geldings attacking foals, seems strange that they would do that. I don't keep any colts I raise, so I never have any on the place, but I would not pasture them with babies.
Glad to hear she's better. Good thing she's cooperative. What a good girl! And Savannah did a nice job on the photos!
oh that poor girl!
I am so happy she is better.
Sometimes geldings are awful. My Old Guy never used to pick on other horses until he aged, now he gets cranky if other horses are around us-weird.
wowsers, that is a big one! Mine had swelling just like that, but it didn't abcess. Nice to see her being taken care, you do such a good job!!! Ain't easy!!!
Yeah Savannah! Way to capture the pics for us!
Great pictures Savannah! I don't know much about this kind of thing but it can't be easy to do the treatment. And the size of that needle - woa!
Looks to be draining well.
The things we do for our horses! :)Hope she continues to heal up!
have bene out of touch and missed this whole thing, so sorry to hear about Angel, glad she is cooperative with her treatment, boy that helps so much doesn't it? when Katie sliced her leg open 8 inches and the stitches didn't hold, we had to treat it as an open wound, and she was so good and patient... the worst thing for her was the stall rest, she did NOT like being cooped up and away from the herd! prayers for Angel for a full recovery!!!
OMG forgot to say GREAT JOB SAVANNAH on the pics! :)
