KRRS RODEO FINALS 6/7/09

Savannah had her finals in her KRRS series at our church on Sunday. She did a great job in all her events and we are really proud of her! Way to go Savannah and "Angel!" The awards were given at the end of the day~they received a buckle, rope bag, kids rope, trick rope, brush and several roping gloves. Waiting her turn for the barrels!

"PEDRO" & SAVANNAH

The other day Savannah told me she wanted to ride "Pedro." Okay, so she did and he bucked her off twice, actually she stepped off of him when he would start acting up, but anyway she did it. She was alittle aggravated he was acting that way. We took a video so her Daddy could see her. Yesterday she announced she was going to ride him again and he wasn't going to buck her off! LOL! The previous owner's son used to ride him a long time ago, and she was determined to do it herself. So we set out and she did a great job. She told us she got the buck out the day before! LOL! She rode him around in the lot for about 20 minutes or so! You can tell in the video he is just alittle stubborn! The 1st video is her riding him for the first time! The 2nd video is her riding him a couple of days later!

I think I've lost my horse! I took this video at her rodeo this month! She has now started loping and she just loves it! I'm so happy to see how much confidence she is gaining! I'm very proud of her and of "Angel!"

Last Saturday our church had a Pasture Roping at our preacher's house. I love going there, it is just beautiful and always alot of fun. Hubby's team rode in it and won 2nd! Way to go guys!

It has been crazy around here this last week! This is the first time I've gotten on the computer in a week! Last Saturday hubby had a pasture roping and Sunday Savannah had her 3rd KRRS at church. Then my allergies kicked in on Monday and I was down until Thursday and to top it off she got the stomach bug too!! I don't know what kicked my allergies in, but I'm glad to be back to the land of the living! Look forward to seeing what you all have been up to, missed you guys!

Not so WW!! Hope you all are well, busy here, like it is everywhere! Count down till the end of school! We have some event every weekend, it's plum crazy!! Farrier came out yesterday afternoon to replace "Roo's" front shoe that he lost, so he could use him today day working. Well, he picked up the right front foot and he went down in the front end. Dang it! He checked his left front and he had a abscess~double dang! He has not even been limping! He got it open and draining, so that's a good thing. Gave him some bute last night and started Epsom salt soaks, as hubby has a pasture roping on Saturday he will need him for. So "Willis" earned him a trip day working today! Go "Wilis!!" Doing a horse demo at the school tomorrow for K & 1st grades Field Day. We are asked every year to do it and we love too! We love sharing the horses with the kids and teaching them about them as well. Hope you all are having a great week! Love ya'll!!

SHE'S BACK HOME~WOO HOO!!!

"Shelby's" back safe and sound at home! Hubs picked her up on his way home from work this morning. He called and told me she was p*ssed at him and wasn't giving him the time of day! LOL! Of course he is the one that dropped her off on Tuesday! She came in the door of the house and straight in to my lap for a solid hour! I think she may have missed me! Just got through giving her a bath and cleaned up. She has been in a pen outside with him for 5 days! I told hubby she probably thought she was in h*ll! She is used to sleeping inside, normally in the bed! I'm glad to have her back and will keep you all posted! And to answer PG~the normal gestation for a dog is 60-62 days. Hopefully real soon we will be posting some puppy pics!

Off to get ready for tomorrow, it is our play day after church. They are calling for rain, but I hope it holds off as Savannah really wants to ride! Have got to get hubby's dinner ready for tomorrow, as he is working nights.

I MISS MY GIRL!!

Man I miss this! I miss my girl being here with me! Nothing has happened to her, she is away getting bred to our friend's Hanging Tree Dog~Chuck! Hubby dropped her off on Tuesday and was supposed to pick her up this evening and bring her home. Well, he called this afternoon and said they wanted to keep her until Saturday to increase her chances of being bred.

Okay I guess I can/will have to live with that! Little Cowgirl wasn't real happy when I told her it would be another few days before she came back!! She does everything with me and I have missed her bunches the last few days! She is such a great companion! Who couldn't love that face!??! Needless to say we will be counting down the days till we can go get our girl!! Miss ya "Shelby" & love you bunches!

We had a Sort & Doctor event at church last night. You had to sort 3 head and rope the 3rd. And our team took 1st! Way to go guys! We had alittle trouble on the ground, but still got it done. Normally what happens when hubby and I ride together is not good! I swear it's like we can't win when we ride together! We have been getting better though! It was a great time and I was glad the weather held off to have the event. We are supposed to be having Church in the Dirt this morning, but it is raining now! Hope you all have a blessed Sunday!

Happy Birthday Doddlebug! My baby girl turns 7 years old today! My goodness where has time gone? Seems like she was just a baby not too long ago! She will be a 2nd grader next year!

She is such a blessing to us and we love her so very much! She has a huge heart and a great personality. She has made us very proud of the young girl she is becoming!

Yesterday was Savannah's 2nd KRSS series at our church. The events were: barrels, penning, goat roping/flipping/branding and Mutton Bustin'. She did a great job yesterday, we are so very proud of her!

A couple of weeks ago our church held a Buck Wild Rough Stock Challenge. We parked next to the cow truck. Well I had told her she could play but she needed to stay in the area we were in. I looked up and couldn't find her. So I walked to the truck and trailer to see if she was playing there, nope not there either! Okay, I look over at the cow truck and hear giggling! I called her name, I get a yes mam! Busted, she was playing in the cow truck! She comes up to the door and sits down for her picture and then looks at me and says~ "Mom, this is totally awesome!" She loved getting to look around inside the truck! Let me tell you she can pick out a cow truck a mile away! Her Dad has thought her all bought them, as he used to drive one! One will pass and people are ugh~the smell and she'll say "Smells like money!" LOL! I love my little cowgirl!

HANNAH MONTANA HAS HIT OUR HOUSE!

Well Hannah Montana has hit our house hold! Let me start by saying she had never watched HM before December. We just got Dish late December and she started asking to watch the show. I watched it with her a couple of times and was impressed with the actual "G" rating and thought it was a cute show. So when Hannah Montana the movie came out on the 15th of this month, We had a mother/daughter night and went and saw it! I will say, I LOVED the movie, as she did too! And it to was a actual "G" rating, that is truly hard to find these days.

So with all that she has been asking for some HM clothes. I found this little number on the clearance rack at Walmart for $3.00~arm gloves and all! She was so excited!

The Cherokee County Livestock Show was this past Friday and Saturday and Savannah got to show a goat in it. Our friend's daughter dislocated her shoulder the week prior to the show and wasn't able to show. So we went through the proper channels and got the okay for Savannah to show the goat! She was so excited, she just loves "Dragon!" So Wednesday night I went to the ag barn and clipped him and did all this during a massive thunderstorm! Savannah kept saying we are going to blow away! LOL! Took him Thursday got him registered and weighed in! Friday morning goats were at 8 am!

She did a great job with him, he can be a handful at times, but she handled him very well! And we have a red ribbon, we made the sale! She was so excited~!

After she was done showing she wanted to go check out the other animals! Imagine that 1st off was this sweet little heifer "Precious!" She was so soft and a sweetie! Savannah was just talking away to the girl that owns her!

And of course we found a friend from school that was showing bunnies! She just had to hold one!

First off, I've missed you guys! Last week was crazy with school's fundraiser in the mornings, trimming goats for the show, Livestock Show Friday and Saturday and helping with a event at church on Sunday. I thought this morning I'll catch up and post pics and things. Well wrong! Go out to feed this morning and "Roo" is laying down, odd since he hardly ever lays down. He didn't eat and as soon as I turned him out he layed down. Damn, he is either colicing, tied up or impacted. Catch him, tie him up. Run to the house, wake up child, hook up truck and trailer and head to the vet~did all that in record time! He had a slight impaction, thankfully we caught it early, he oiled him and gave him some meds. We got back home late this morning and have been horse watching all day. About 3 we had our first small poop! I've never been so glad to see poop I tell ya! I can already tell he is feeling better, he will stay up tonight with only hay and water. And he said we could start him back on feed tomorrow! Thank goodness! I know I'm drained! I promise I'm going to post and pop in and visit! Hopefully tomorrow!

"Willis" turns 4 years old today. Born Decked Out Bueno on March 14, 2005. Sire~Seeking Our Star, Dam~Cragers Poco Mary. On the top side he has Dude Wimp Bar Deck, Miss Nifty Zipper, Dark Moon Chic, King Wimp Wickee, Go Zipper, Miss Nifty Bars. On the bottom side he has HQH Poco Joe, Poco Marabel, Poco Papacita, Divides Cinder Ann, Poco Bueno 2 and Miss Marabel. Him and "Angel" are half brother and sister~same Sire different Dams. We bought him from Stoney and Leah Burke of Burke Quarter Horses in Frankston, Texas. He is currently in training to become a heading horse, but I want to make him a all around horse as well. So he gets hauled everywhere to every kind of event. Exposure is so good on a young horse. He has been a pleasure to ride and I'm learning alot about training colts. I have high hopes for this horse and think in a couple of years we will be a force to be reckoned with!

WE FINALLY GOT IT!

We finally got the possum that has been hanging out here! It started about 2 weeks ago, it was about 9 pm and Shelby was going crazy in the house~barking, running around. So I let her out and then she ran out and started barking~I knew she had something. So I grabbed my pistol and flashlight and out the door I went. I came around the side of the house and saw she had cornered something, I flashed over and it was a possum, it was making a hissing type sound. That is the first time I've every heard one. So I kept trying to call her back so I could shoot it. But every time I moved, she moved in between me and the possum, she was protecting me. Finally she ran it off. Well for a couple of days nothing, then she started getting really irritated and getting into our bathtub. Crazy dog, but I guess it was getting under the house and she could smell it in there! We came home tonight and I fed the cat in the garage and was going back to let him in since it is so cold. I flipped on the garage light and opened the door, only to find a possum looking at me! Holy cow, he was sitting there eating the cat food! I got him cornered in the back of the garage and yelled for hubby to come with a gun! Any who, we finally won and got the little stinker! Maybe my dog will stay out of the bathtub now! Of course Savannah had to run out and be in the picture! Hubby said you can take a picture, just don't get him in it! LOL!

SPRING BREAK RIDE

On Monday Tater wanted to go for a ride, so we loaded up and went down to the farm. We left out and rode some back roads and had a great time. Daddy went varmint hunting while we were riding.

On our way through the woods! Frosty~the white horse wanted to go so bad, he followed us all the way to the gate! And he was waiting there when we came back!

PLAY DAY SUNDAY

Sunday after church was our monthly play day. The events were barrels, obstacle course, pony express and boot race. I was proud of Savannah she did a great job on "Angel", they did all the events.

Savannah taking the first can! She did a good pattern and even slow loped home! She didn't necessarily want to lope home, but "Angel" was coming back to me! She is in to trotting every where and is just alittle nervous about loping! We are getting there ~ she is getting her confidence up!

Daddy and "Roo!" This horse is SO super fast, I wish I could get him to have 3 nice tight barrels in a arena and go to a few races on him! At home he is great on barrels and poles, in the pen, not so much!

It was a fairly easy obstacle course: ride to the middle of the pen, lope a circle around a cone, come to the back through, go to cone and pick up tennis ball and take to next cone and drop off, 2 jumps and pick up tennis ball and place on cone, come home.

Me and "Willis" on the obstacle course! I had just picked up the tennis ball and was heading to the next cone to drop it off! He did a great job, was proud of him. The play days are a great training tool. He did a nice slow lope barrel pattern, but somebody forget to get pictures of Mom!

WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TOO!

Alot has been happening around here this past week that has kept me busy and not having time to stay connected to you all! Nothing bad, just getting some much needed things done! First off been sorting through stuff to go to the dump and stuff to go to the metal place. It's amazing how you accumulate this stuff! Had someone haul off the metal things that have been here, that I wanted gone! Good check that off, then had them haul a load off to the dump, check that off! I am so glad that those things are gone, happy dance inserted here! While cleaning out the barn, there was a pile of wood, I lifted it and was moving it and came upon a nest of field mice! Well, I ask you "Who needs a cat when you have Shelby?" You don't! You know she killed every last one of them! And she did it in normal cow dog fashion, sort and cut them off and then take them out! LOL! Wish I had a video it was hysterical! She didn't eat them thank goodness, so to teach my useless cat, what he is supposed to be doing. I picked them up and came and put them in his feed bowl! Crazy cat, the dog is whipping you in this department! Been rearranging the garage to be more functional as a garage and feed room! That's what I've been up too! So excited that today is early release and little cowgirl is on spring break next week! Woo hoo! Nothing planned, just some quality family time as hubby will be off some of the time too! Double woo hoo! Happy Friday everyone!

1ST GOAT SHOW............

Savannah had the privilege to show a friend's goat this weekend at our church's 1st annual Livestock Show. She was beyond excited! Of course she has never shown, neither had the goat, but that didn't stop her! We clipped the goats Friday afternoon and left early Saturday morning for the show.

Weighing "Dragon"~she sure was watching them! His name is Dragon, because you normally have to drag him around. Luckily there was a goat in front of them!

Tater was fixing to give her some quick lessons in showing!

It was SO cold Saturday morning and this pen is either very hot or very cold! Hubby felt sorry for the goats and went and got some blankets! They didn't move, they enjoyed there blankets!

Savannah was in Class 4 of the goats and did a great job. He acted up once but she handled it great! She got 6th place and was excited. Both of the kids did a great job showing there goats, way to go! She may even get to show this goat at the next show!

The end of the day, we were waiting on them to finish showmanship, we were both tired!

It has taken me 2 days to get this post finished! Been busy and tired! Looking forward to catching up with each of you!

RIDING AND ROPING TIME...................

On Thursday we took "Willis" over to our good friend Jim Fuller's house for him to look at. Wanted to get his opinion on how his was coming along and want I needed to work on. He is a calf horse trainer and a NFR Qualifier and I love picking his brain! Him and his family are such blessings to us. He had me just ride him around and warm him up and then track the donkey. I then got to track a few steers around and do some slow box work. Overall he thinks he is coming along fine and gave me some things to work on. Need to work on his speed (walking out of the box and then making him get to the steer~drive him to the steer, working on his rate before you turn left, tweaking his handle. Everything else he said I had been doing was positive and he is looking good for his age. He thinks in a couple of years he is going to be a great head horse. I truly value his opinion and all his years of knowledge.

Today we loaded up "Roo", "Willis", "Angel" & "Pedro" and went down to the pen to get in some practice. It was a great day! Hubby on "Roo" going after "Pedro" I just missed Pedro kicking out and taking off!

Me riding "Roo". I also rode "Willis" and "Angel" as well. Hubby always has me to rope off all the horses. He says it'll help you rope better. Don't get used to just one horse. It makes alot of sense, as each horse is different.

We came and home and re saddled "Angel" with Savannah's saddle, I went and picked her up and then we got in some practice with her. I rode "Roo" and we did barrels, poles and just riding in the pasture. This is the first time she has ridden her in awhile. She went through a spell for about 6 months when she didn't want to ride. We didn't push her and she has decided she wants to do her rodeos again this year. Our church is starting a series March~June and then her RCRA rodeo series will start in August~December. We are excited she is wanting to start riding again. Our rule is we'll haul you, but you have to keep your horse exercised and practice. She started off walking and then she was trotting the patterns! Way to go Savannah!

Nothing exciting to report going on here! Just been busy! I did get some saddle time in this morning on Willis and Angel. Gotta get Angel ready to go as little cowgirl's rodeos start up in March. You could definitely tell I had been off her for almost 2 months! It was a great morning for it too~ya right! Drizzle off and on and just yuck! But I was bound and determined! It all worked out and we had very productive rides! I was going to take pictures, but couldn't find the camera! Gotta run to town and do some errands before picking up little one! HAPPY BIRTHDAY "ANGEL"

HAPPY BIRTHDAY "ANGEL!" Ima Little Angel~Born February 10, 2000. Sire~Seeking Our Star. Dam~ Josh's Princess. We bought her from Burke Quarter Horses in Frankston, Texas. Stoney and Leah have done a extraordinary job with there breeding! I can't say enough about there horses and just them in general. The above picture was taken in McKinney, Texas this past year at the Cowgirls of Faith Extreme Cowgirl Challenge and conference. Me and Leah, and 8 other girls were invited to participate in the ECC at the conference. There was a qualifying round and they took the top 2 and then there was a ECC showdown Saturday afternoon. I qualified 1st and Leah 2nd and then in the showdown Leah took 1st and I 2nd. It was a close race and the extraordinary thing about it was, our horses are related! She is riding "Sunny Man" who is Angels' half brother. Stoney was elated he had not 1 but 2 horses in the finals!! I felt honored to have such a horse and have Stoney there to see his horses working. What a day it was! Anyone who is a regular knows how I feel about her! We have that special bond, I trust her and respect her! She takes care of me and my little cowgirl, that is priceless! I have done all sorts of events on her~roping, rodeos, day worked, sortings, play days, post colors, Extreme races, barrels and Savannah rides her in her rodeos. I don't think there is anything I can't do on her! I thank God everyday for such a horse and having a hubby that loves me enough to buy such a extraordinary horse! Love ya girl, too many more years and times together!

""PESKY'S" STORY (aka Old Man)

Here is "Pesky" (aka Old Man)! Name "Pesky Red Sonny" born on April 6, 1982. Sire~Red Sonny Dee, Dam~Pesky Lou. Hubby bought him for $1,200 when he was a 8 year old to use as a heading horse.

He team roped off him and used him for day working off of. Here is his story, which will overlap with how hubby and I started dating. I meet hubby for the first time when him and his cousin brought in his cousin's horse to the clinic where I worked. A few weeks later I went with a friend to a roping practice and saw hubby there roping. My friend was having trouble with his roping horse and hubby was going to ride the horse for him. He asked me to cool down "Pesky" for him. I climbed on and he whispered something in his ear. Later I found out he told the "Old Man to take care of me." How sweet!

When I left there I didn't think I would ever see him again. But the next week he brought in his old mare to have her wolf teeth out and her teeth floated. Said Hi and went about our business. We kept the mare for a couple of days and then he came back to pick her up. We just hit it off and started talking. I'll never forget when he left that today, my boss, came to me and said he is a great guy and I would give you my blessing to date him! That was how Grady was, such a caring man. He has since last his battle with cancer. He is greatly missed by all the cattle people, there isn't another cow vet like him around.

So anyway, that weekend was the Jacksonville rodeo and who do you think was there roping in it? Hubby and the "Old Man!" He told me that I came up to him and asked if I could ride his horse! I didn't remember that! :O We started dating and eventually married and I would warm up and cool down his horse at roping's! ( that was the extent of my riding~until the last four years!) Some of them things were marathon roping's!

Skip forward to when little cowgirl was born. She has been riding since she was born. And he was her first horse and such a great babysitter. As you can see in the picture above, she loved her "Old Man!" And he loved her! There is one time in particular that he and my mare saved her life. We were working some calves and she was in the pen with us, she was sitting on him and he and Angel were tied to the fence. We were dragging calves to the fire and me and hubby both were taking our turns on the ground. A guy roped a calf and drug it out and for some reason he stepped off his horse, which comes to find out is a green roping horse, and when that calf put pressure on the horse off he went. He was running around the pen dragging the calf. He hit the side of Pesky and knocked Savannah off between the two of them. They both looked down and saw her and moved over the top of her to protect her from the horse and calf.

We both got there and she was okay, thank goodness! If they hadn't covered her up, who knows what could of happened. One of our good friends looked at hubby and said you know that horse is priceless. Yes we do, he has taken care of her through her learning and her first couple of years of play days and rodeos. He is a bomb proof horse! One thing I wished I could of done on him is roped off him. I would love to back him in the box and head one with him! He was awesome in the box and such power. He is diffidently a one of a kind and there will never be another one like him. He has been fully retired for the last 2 years and will continue to live out his retirement here. I know I don't even want to thank about losing him, it will be a bad day around here. I do know he will be taken care off until he passes on, he deserves that. I won't let him suffer, we owe him that. I'm having a hard time finishing this with out crying. I do know we are blessed to have such a special horse and I thank God for him everyday. He just means so much to hubby, me and little cowgirl. Thanks "Pesky" for all the years with you and too many, many more together. We love you!

Okay so I know it's not Wednesday, but here is my WW picture! I'm still alive and well, just been crazy!

First off I've missed you guys, but without a computer I've been in cleaning/organizing mode!

Updates: "Pesky's" (aka Old Man) his blood work came back great for his age! Woo hoo!

We sold our S & H 4 horse slant trailer to a great couple for them to haul there grand kids and children around. I think we also made some new friends.

Hubby's been sick with the coughing, headache crud! I think his is on the way to recovery!

Hubby actually had a few days off in a row, and we didn't have plans and just stayed home and vegged out! So nice to do that sometimes!

I just knew today I was going to able to get caught up with everyone, but I didn't!

Here is my day:

took Little cowgirl to school and helped for a few minutes
came home and feed
come in start laundry, straighten up house
turn out horses
move poles in pasture
put out hay
saddle "Willis" and ride
guy calls to come pick up trailer today within the hour (they were going to pick up on Saturday)~of course I'm riding!!
Meet him to pick up trailer
come back unsaddle horse
start hubby's lunch (he is working nights)
get a phone call about horses out down the road
get in to truck and head down the road to help, almost get run over! Really people if you see horses running down the road~don't you think you can slow down! Jeez!
come back just in time to get hubby up for work
finish lunch
eat with hubby before he leaves for work and I head out to get little cowgirl from school!

WHEW I'm tired! I'm sure I left something out, I don't think I sat down today! Fixing to turn out horses and start homework and our nightly routine. I hope I can get to check in with everyone and see what you have been up to! Missed you all!

BTW~several have asked to hear the story about "Pesky", I'm working on that, so keep a look out for it!

Still alive and well! Crazy computer won't let me post or upload pics! UGH! H0ping that gets fixed real soon!
Took "Angel" to the vet for her suture removal and post op on Friday. Looks good, healing nicely. She is still alittle sore around area, so he wants me to stay off her another 2 weeks. Took "Pesky" aka The Old Man, to the vet for a check up. He said he looks great for his age, heart and lungs sound great. He did recommend blood work to check liver and kidney functions. Will call with results. So I breathed a sigh of relief, he is going to be 27 years old this April. I will have to post his story one day, he is a special horse.
I hope all of you have been well and I hope my computer will get a grip and start working! Our hard drive is the problem, I'm out of memory, always something!

Ok, I know it's a corny title, but I couldn't help myself! Well yesterday afternoon we headed down to our farm for alittle family shooting time!

Mom & Dad having alittle healthy competition going on! We had set up various targets to shoot at and see who hit them first! I think I had the advantage as my .22 held 15 bullets, his only 1! *notice he is not afraid to shoot a pink rifle! *

The older donk went to his new home yesterday afternoon. A friend of ours has 2 teenage boys that rope and they jumped at the chance of getting him! He seemed happy in his new digs! There goat wasn't so sure when we pulled in!

Angel is doing well, I take her Friday to have her stitches out and a check up!

The other day on the way to church a song came on the radio and hubby said I dedicate this song to you! It is on my play list the first song. It is called "Don't Think I Can't Love You" by Jake Owens. If you haven't heard it yet, crank up your sound and listen to it! I'm blessed to have a husband that does love me and I know I'm rich! Here is my interview done by Mikey. She emailed my questions last night and here they are!

1. Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes I do~felt a love I never knew about the moment I saw my daughter for the first time!

2. Have you ever peed in public?
A bunch of times~can't even count! Really have you seen some of the gas station bathrooms? And of course since having a child who always seems to have to go when there is no restroom in sight! And isn't that what horse trailers are for!?!?!?

3. What would your last meal be before being executed?
Seafood~definitely seafood~lobster, scallops, shrimp, Caesar salad, Red Lobster cheese biscuits, sweet tea and a chocolate dessert of some sort. Death by chocolate! :O

4. Would you rather be blind or deaf?
Had to think about this one and I would say deaf. So I could still be able to ride horses.

5. What do you do as soon as you walk in the house?
I set my keys and sunglasses on the entertainment center in the den and then put my purse down on the desk.

NEW DONKS~AND~CHICKS

Well today has been a day I tell ya! I get a phone call from Vester (Grey's owner) and he says you want some jacks? Well I guess. He tells me there story and says we will be there in about a hour and a half. I hang up thinking, how in the world am I going to explain this to hubby?? The oldest one is a jack and the man said he could pull a cart and rope him. And the baby donk is about 8 months old, just a cutie! The man was getting rid of them because they kept getting into his feed for his cows. He gave them to Vester and told him to do whatever he wanted with them. Told hubby when I woke him up to go to work, he just looked at me like really!? I said you know Vester! He told me we needed to find a home for the older donk and we could keep the baby! I kinda figured that. And plus he wants to raise the baby to be another roping/tracking donk. Of course I knew that would go over real well with little cowgirl!

Checking out there new digs for the next couple of days!

Aren't we just a cutie, so fluffy! He didn't know if it was a jenny or jack. Well be trying to find that out tomorrow~didn't want to stress the poor little thing to bad! The baby was alittle stand offish today. I will be getting a halter on him/her real soon and start handling.

Okay, so I go get little cowgirl and I tell her what is at home and tell her the oldest donk will be finding a great new home to live. She's okay with that, as long as the baby stays! (I knew that was coming!) I explained to her about these donks and to not go around behind them, yada yada yada. So we are out getting everyone in there places for feeding and I look up and there she is! I swear! She is just talking to him and rubbing on him. She has a way with animals I tell ya!! I was that way when I was younger and I still am. I just love animals and they love me.

Look what I have in my house in a big blue bucket! 5 chicks! Whatever it was that killed the chick a couple of nights ago has not been back. Well today when I left to go get little cowgirl from school the hen and chicks where in the pasture. When I came back and we go out to see the new donks, I found the hens feathers everywhere. The 5 chicks were out in the pasture with the rooster. So whatever it is, came out in broad daylight and killed her! And plus I was only gone about 30 minutes. Jeez, that is scary that whatever it is, is not afraid of coming up in the daylight. Of course hubby still is thinking it is a coyote, which means they are no longer afraid. Which is even scarier when I think of all the times little cowgirl plays outside. Would this thing be bold enough to come up and get her? He was telling me of a story of some people that had been feeding the coyotes where they worked. All of a sudden the coyotes started attaching the people! Why would anyone think it's okay to feed the coyotes? I know we always kill them when we see them. They are such a nuisance to our animals.

She is so excited and has taken over the mother hen role! On a good note they will going to school in the morning for the kids to see. The teacher tried to incubate some eggs a couple of months ago and none hatched. So I called her tonight and I'll take them in the morning.

PLAY DAY AWARDS FOR 2008

We had our Play Day Awards luncheon and presentation yesterday after church. Well as you can see I won the buckle for my age group. Let me just say I am so excited! One of the reasons is, as hubby pointed I should probably tell you all about, is I really just started riding about 4 years ago. I rode alittle before I had little cowgirl, warming up and cooling off hubby's roping horse, but that was about it. I had the desire then, but then we had little cowgirl and my main job was being her mom! *best job ever, by the way* But, when she was old enough I set out on my desire to improve my riding. This is my second year to do the play days and they were so great for me and Angel. They helped me build my confidence and improved my riding. She is such a awesome horse, I'm truly blessed! Me and her are at that point where we are one, it is just a awesome feeling. We have won many things together, but this is the first buckle! This year on her I'm focusing on my team roping and rodeos. Savannah has decided she would like to ride Angel this year in the play days, so I'm excited about that. I'm going to haul Willis this year to the play days for training. I would like to say a huge thank you to Mike & Ginger for doing such a great job on the play days! Every month they come up with great events to have. And to my dear hubby for buying such a awesome horse for me! I'm looking forward to another year of play days with Willis.

I tried to get a close up of the buckle, but it keep reflecting the flash back! This is the best one! And yes I put it on my belt as soon as I got it! :)

**Mikey I so thought of you this morning!**

Last night I went to bed around 11 pm. Would have been in there earlier, but we were watching CMT~they had Larry the Cable Guy, Ron White and Bill Engovall special. It was so good to watch and laugh! Hubby stayed up as his back was hurting. I was awoke around 1:30 am, to the hen screeching and hubby yelling something is getting the hen and chicks. I jump out of bed and run out the door. Found the hen and the chicks were spread out across the yard. We got them herded back towards mom and she started clucking. It took about 30 minutes and they were safely back to her. There were just 6, I guess whatever was after them, got 1. We looked around and didn't see anything. Hubby is thinking it was a coyote or dog. So tonight we will set a trap and see what we get. Mikey I thought of you and all your adventures you have at your place.

Crazy Weather.........

Today we decided to go to our arena and rope. We loaded up around 1 and I had to come back inside and change into a t-shirt. It was that warm! It got around 77+ degrees today. Isn't this December?!?!? Any way took "Roo", "Willis" & "Pedro" and got in some practice. Had a great time and found a few things I need to work with Willis on. After we roped we rode around the place and then headed back home. Savannah has a art class after school on Thursdays, so we needed to go and pick her up. Taylor was at the Ag Barn clipping his goat for his upcoming show on Saturday, so we decided to ride out there and see if he needed any help. We helped him finish his goat and helped another girl there with hers. She was alittle nervous as she had never clipped a goat before. All in all a great day! The weather is supposed to be unseasonably warm again tomorrow and then rain and cold coming back in late Saturday and Sunday.

We made the trip well and made it back last night. I first off want to thank you for all your kind thoughts and prayers. The weather was yucky for the first part of the trip, but when we made it to Emory the rain cleared out and it turned into a nice sunny day. It was nice to get to visit with family we only get to see every year or so. Dial Baptist Church is where the service was held. I have been going to that church since I was born. I loved getting to go to Nannie and Granddaddy's during the summer and visiting. My Dad's family has been members there for years. It is a nice small town church. After the service we made the trip to the cemetery and put flowers on my mom's grave.
I had to stop and take a picture of this sign at my uncle R.M.s place. My Dad's family has been farming for years, generations of Charles'.

The last couple of days I have been spending time with Savannah since she goes back to school Tuesday from Christmas Break. Just playing, coloring whatever, good mother daughter time. I love her being home and will miss her when she goes back. Angel has been doing good and the incision looks well. She loves being treated like a princess and let's the boys know she's still in charge! Sad news, my uncle R.M. passed away on the 2nd. His funeral will be Tuesday in Honey Grove, TX. So we will be heading out early Tuesday morning for that. It seems the only time family gets together is for weddings and funerals. Everyone gets so busy and lives far apart. He will be buried at the same cemetery where my mom is and it has been bringing up alot of memories. I have not been to the cemetery in at least 4 years or so. Don't get me wrong I think and miss my mom everyday. But this is bringing up memories of her last year and her passing. So that is why I have been MIA, just been in a funk!

ANGEL UPDATE~WEDNESDAY

Got her picked up this morning from the vet and home safely. She is going to have to be confined for 2 weeks and have the sutures out in 3 weeks. There is alittle bit of swelling and leakage from the site. She was happy to see me and irritated on the same note. I'm sure for leaving her there! He did say it would be alittle uncomfortable for her. When I was settling her into the lot with hay and water, she seemed to be at ease to be home. She was following me around and loving on me. That's my girl!

Here is what it looks like! Dr. Thoni did say that after surgery, he took the scar tissue and was checking it, just to make sure what it was. It was a puncture wound or bite wound that had abscessed and gotten infected and he thinks the friction from the girt caused irritation and made it bigger. He did say he got it all and it shouldn't come back.

"ANGEL" UPDATE

She came through surgery great and is recovering in her stall. Said she probably would have alittle swelling. Will be able to pick her up in the morning and they will give me her discharge instructions. I'm so glad it is over and she did well. I love our vet and his whole staff, they truly understand and care for the animals. Thanks to you all for your kind words and prayers! I'll keep you posted on her recovery. I'm now going to lay down and take care of myself! I went to the doctor this morning and I have a ear infection! So she started me on antibiotics and ear drops.

Me and my girl, I just love her so! Well this afternoon I had to take her to the vet and drop her off, she is scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning between 10:30-11. I will get to pick her up Wednesday morning. Here is the whole story~the last time we worked cows when I was saddling her I felt a couple of bumps/knots on her left side where her front girt goes. Saddled her anyway, thinking they were just bites. Well we had been penning cattle for about 30 minutes and I asked her to start loping and she kicked out! What in the world I say and try again and this time I know she was kicking out. Which, even though she is a mare, she doesn't ever act this way. I knew immediately something is wrong and take her back to the trailer and get "Willis." We finish working for the day and I call the vet and make her a apt. for the next day. Of course I'm thinking everything from nothing to she has cancer by the time I get her there! He exams her and determines she has a huge girt knot. It is accumulated scar tissue that can happen and the only way to get rid of it is to have it removed. The best way he said is to lay her down so he can make sure he gets it all, if he did not it would come back. He did say it is very painful for the horse and that is why she was kicking out. After surgery it will be 30 days before I can ride her again. He said I probably could after 15 days, but he would prefer 30 to make sure she is completely healed. Not a problem, I was going to give her a break this winter and work with "Willis" anyway. So we took her this afternoon and dropped her off. That was hard, I tell ya. She is such a special horse to me and we have such a bond. I know I'm ready for it to be over with and have her back home with me!! So say a prayer for her and Dr. Thoni! And for me as well~that I don't go crazy with her gone!!

CHRISTMAS

Christmas morning~she was not wanting to pose for the camera~!

She was so excited~she got what she asked for! FYI~only the stocking at our house is from Santa, everything else is from us. She got her little cricket rifle, gun case and bullets to go with it.

We had to wait a couple of days due to the weather to take her and let her shoot it. Let me just say we are proud of her. She wasn't all over the place, it will just take her some time to get used to the sights. I will say this is a nice little beginner gun. Very lightweight, no kick and easy for her to handle. I don't think I started on a gun like that!

She was having so much fun!! Of course we took our 22, my pistol and several shotguns to shoot. Hubby even pulled out the skeet thrower and we did that as well. It has been awhile since we have shot skeet. We all had a great time.

Geared up and ready to go feed this morning! I'm wearing insulated coveralls, new down filled camo coat, rubber boots. Needless to say I stayed nice and warm! Thanks honey for the rocking coat! :)

And yes this is a picture from this morning! Crazy hen was sitting on eggs and hatched them out last week! I was shocked to say the least, they normally don't sit during the winter! Crazy weather even messed up the chickens! LOL!

FAMILY TIME

This morning we went to the sale barn to see how the sale was going and to mingle with the locals. Savannah loves going and watching! After that we went to our pen for some roping practice. The weather here has been crazy! The last week it has been cold, winter weather. Yesterday and today it was in the 70s! Supposed to turn off winter weather again tomorrow or Monday!

WORKIN COWS

Yesterday we went to work cows with some friends of ours in Henderson. Was going well with the penning of the cows, until this lovely little red cow decided to change the plans. She is brushed up, so they sent in 2 cow dogs to try and get her out and then they were going to rope her. Well, she tried to eat the 2 dogs, so I was sent to our trailer to get "Shelby". So I come back and hubby turns her onto the cow, well things started slow, but between Shelby and the other 2 dogs they finally got her out of the brush and moving along well. It had rained the day before a whooping 4 inches, so it was nice and muddy! At one point in the pens, Savannah had her boot sucked off her foot! It was great weather for working the cows though, not too hot, not too cold!! It was a great family day, no one got hurt, great food and fellowship!

You have to look real close but this is a picture of "Shelby" on the head of the cow! You go girl! Hubby was very proud of her! This cow meant business and had already slung one of the other dogs through the brush. They had to doggie up and get the job done!

I wanted to let you all know about these great rubber boots I found! I don't know about you, but I normally go through a bunch of the cheap rubber boots in a year. I wear them everyday, sometimes multiples times throughout the day. The cheaper ones, didn't last and were not warm at all. When I was at our local feed store a couple months back we started talking about this new line he was carrying. Sounded great, till he told me how much. I left with no boots, I'm such a tightwad! Well I was telling hubby about them and he said honey as much as you spend on the cheaper boots several times during the year, you would have paid for these. Oh, I didn't think of that, I was just focused on the cost right now. So needless to say I bought the boots and I LOVE them! They are the best money I have spent. They are called Bogs. They are 100 % waterproof, 100% breathable and 100 % warm. I wear them all the time and my feet are so warm! ROPING PRACTICE

This morning we loaded up and headed down to our arena and roped. Before we could head to the arena we went to the local DQ and had breakfast with the Old Timer's Group. They are the local men in the area that meet there every morning to catch up on the town gossip! Let me just tell you it is very entertaining! They have accepted me and let me into the group! There ring leader is the owner of "Grey" the horse I rode a couple of months back. Let me just tell you they know everything that is going on and if they don't they will find and get back with ya!! After that we headed down to our pen and practiced roping. "Willis" is needing alot of tracking and slow roping done on him and hubby is working on his heeling skills on my mare. Did someone say new halter for me?!?!?

Check out her new bronc halter! I've always wanted one and have been searching for the right one for awhile now. Found it, in a friend's tack room, and told her if she ever wanted to get rid of it let me know! She never used it and was selling things to buy more tack for her new horse. Thanks RoeAnn! What is it with us horse owners always wanting new tack for our horses!??!? I'm not a shopper at all, but could spend hours in a tack store or looking at horse related magazines!

Today was our November play day after church. The events were barrels, pony express race, ribbon roping and obstacle course. It was a beautiful day and as always we had a blast!! I rode "Angel" for my points and took "Willis" my winter project to just get exposure. He is 3 1/2, he did great! As always, I am proud of my mare. She just rocks! We took 1st place in the barrels, pony express, obstacle course. And 2nd place in the ribbon roping.

Hello all! I'm still alive and well! Just been super busy this past week and haven't been able to post or check in with you guys! Thanks for all the kind emails and posts~! I feel so loved! The first part of the week, we started tearing down our barn and then the later part of the week I have been at the school every day getting ready for the Fall Festival this evening! TEAM ROPING

Yesterday there was a team roping at a cowboy church in Jacksonville. Hubby went to rope in it, the weather was absolutely beautiful! Him and "Roo" did a great job! I'm so very proud of them! He had several runs and came back in the short gos with all his runs! Didn't break the barrier and "Roo" handled very well. All in all a great day!! He has team roped for years on "Pesky" (aka Old Man), he retired him about 5 years ago. Wish I had more pictures of them too, man they were awesome to watch. He won tons on him and "Pesky" is truly a one of a kind horse! I will have to do a post on him, he has a awesome story. Lawsie the day something happens to him. He has started "Roo" in team roping and is slowly starting to haul him. "Roo" is his day working horse, but a green horse when it comes to team roping. The plan is to get "Roo" going and I'm going to head off of him and he is going to heel off my mare. We'll be team Woodall!

BOOK REVIEW

A couple of weeks ago I recieved a email to do a book review on 2 horse books by Jenny Oldfield. They are Juvenile fiction for ages 9 & up. I recevied my books and have just finished the last one. I was very impressed overall by both books. Very clean horse releated fun in each book. That is hard to find this day and age.

The first book I read was Wild Horses. The main character is Kirstie Scoot and she lives for horses. (my kind of girl!) The setting is Half Moon Ranch her Grand parents ranch. She moved there when she was 9 years old. The ranch is located at the end of a 5 mile dirt road off Route 3 out of San Luis. A small town with only a grocery store, gas station and one main street. After her grand father's death they turned the ranch into a small vacation center for paying guests. Which included lodging, meals, trail rides, etc. She is leading a horse trek through Miner's Ridge when a land slide causes her to be trapped alone with a wild proud stallion. The stallion is injured during the land slide and Kirstie and another lone man help the stallion with his wounds and form a lasting bond. It is a great story, even though there interruption of ranching and use of words is different than ours here. I would highly recommend it to any horse crazy girl.

The second book I read was Rodeo Rocky. Kirstie Scott is the main character again and it takes place on Half Moon Ranch as well. It is alittle slow to start and the rodeo lingo she uses it different from ours, but all in all a good book. While Kirstie and the guests from the ranch are at a local rodeo she sees a horse being beaten and stricken to be ridden by a cowboy. Her heart goes out to this horse and she feels a instant connection with him. She conceives her mother to buy the horse and takes him back to the ranch. She begins working with the horse and builds his trust and eventually winds up riding him on trail rides. He has a set back on the trail one day and she realizes she has to trust the horse to get her home safely. Another good book by Jenny Oldfield that I would recommend as well.

WHAT'S IN YOUR TRUCK??

Earlier this week Shirley over at Ride A Good Horse tagged me with What's In Your Truck? So here is what is in my truck! Pics aren't that great, it was so sunny and the way I was parked the light was bad, but here they are!

Front seat: purse, Ruger (Mrs. Mom you should recognize this!), Little Cowgirls spurs~goat rope~hobbles~and multiple ponytail holders on the gearshift, water, spit cup, Coggins notebook on the other side of the console.

Back seat: camo snack bag, multiple headstalls, reins, tie downs, rope bag, camera case, roping glove, extra clothes.

One little cowgirl! Her blanket is in the window behind her!

What's this! Well he is not technically in my truck, but he was sure nosey when I was un looking this morning!

Now you're probably thinking she doesn't have alot of stuff in there! Well, I have a tool box that I keep alot of extra stuff in! Extra clothes bag for little cowgirl, bungee cords, ropes, chinks, boots, cattle prod, rodeo box, first aid kit, etc, etc. That just barely scratches the surface! Then in the bed of my truck: more ropes (you can never have too many!), clippers, multiple sorting sticks, tire iron, blocks, toy bag, cooler. Think that's about it! Me and hubby did make a deal when we got this truck that we were going to keep it clean and organized. So that is why it isn't too bad. Our old dually Oh lawsie me!

**Edited on 10/11/08** Here are the prizes I won, expect the check from our Women's Ranch Rodeo. At this time I am choosing not to say a whole lot about the reason behind taking it off. Mrs. Mom I feel a PSA coming on, but will refrain at this time, since I'm so livid! Some people really need to find better things to do with there time, instead of finding such trivial items on my blog to throw a fit about!

Okay I know I have been MIA on posting this week! LOL! Been busy! Last Sunday we had our Women's Ranch Rodeo at our church. Had a great time and got to meet a fellow blogger! Woo Hoo! Got to meet The Wife from Gizzards & Calf Fries! She is super sweet gal and I was blessed to have met her! I had wanted to get our picture together and never got my camera out of the truck! UGH! I rode on 2 teams and did real well! My team B & W Cattle Co. placed 3rd and won the handmade stirrups and money! And my 2nd team Buckshot Cattle Co. placed 6th and won the hay bag. It was a great day filled with fellowship and tons of fun! Looking forward to next year! Hope to have pictures from the rodeo this next week and get them posted.

I'm a Aunt again! My sister had her little girl on 10/3/08 at 1:18 a.m. She was 8 # 5 oz., 20 1/1 inches long and her name is Priscilla Lynn Jordan. She and baby are doing well. Can't wait to see pictures of her! That makes 7 kiddos and 2 adults=9 total!

Hubby is gone this morning to his first team roping on "Roo." I'm so excited for him and nervous at the same time! Hoping him and "Roo" do well! I'm very proud of him already on how he has taken his time getting "Roo" ready. You can rush things, but you pay for it in the end! Then he is in a ranch rodeo this evening at our church. So another busy weekend!

FAIR TIME~FIELD TRIP................

It's fair time! Savannah's class had a field trip to the East Texas Fair on Thursday. They did the Agriland exhibits and went through the livestock barn. The exhibits were really neat and of course she wanted a picture with the longhorn! We had a great time and I even got to get some fried pickles! Yum-O!! Hubby was off and got to go with us, he surprised Savannah as she didn't think he was going! After the fair thay went to a local park and ate a sack lunch and then played for awhile. It was a great day!

"Roo" has been at the trainers for 10 days, we were having some tweaking done on his roping. Hubby is wanting to team rope off of him and just needed a few adjustments. Well today was the day to go and pick him up. The trainer, him and his family are great friends of ours, we were talking this morning and he was saying he really needed to do alot of tracking off of "Roo." I told him we have been looking for a donkey to use for tracking, just haven't found one yet. Okay he says, we sat up a time and I headed that way. I pull into his driveway and he is leading a horse and a donkey. He walks by hands me the lead to the donkey and goes and ties up the other horse. Next thing I know he is coming with "Roo." He then asks me who I want to load first! What?!?!

What in the world is this?? Go to the trainer's to pick up your horse and come home with a donkey to boot!! He told me after we talked that they were not using this donkey anymore (they have a pony and another donkey they use) and he was fixing to haul this one to the sale. So he gave us the donkey! Woo Hoo! I'm so excited!! I've been wanting one to use for tracking as well on "Angel."

Nosey guys! As soon as I pulled up at the house, every horse looked up and knew something different was there! I walked up to the big gate to our pasture and let them check him out and do there prancing and things. "Preacher" was VERY interested and intrigued by what it was!

His name is "Pedro." He loves to have this spot on his head rubbed! He needs a good brushing and bath, nothing some TLC won't fix! Oh ya, hubby called when I was leaving Jim's and asked how "Roo" was. I said fine, he said what is it? I told him I don't know what you are talking about! He said I know you and Jim too well, what is going on!!! LOL! I told him and he was fine about it! Good thing since I had already left with donkey in tow! He already wants to change his name to "Homer!" Little cowgirl is going to be SO excited when she finds out!

I didn't turn him out with the horses yet, he is going to spend a few days in the lot. Let the horses get used to him. They ran him with there horses and never had a problem! I can say he doesn't like "Shelby" She went into the lot with me and he promptly ran her out! She was just staring at me, Like what did I do!!!

Not bad at all~just 2 strands. So dad and his little helper fixed it! Of course I supervised and took pics! Tried not to get carried away by the mosquitoes! Holy cow they were bad last night!!

Our barn~the feed room side. Called and spoke with our insurance company this morning and they don't want us to do anything to it, until the adjuster comes out.
Harry's Building Supply in downtown Troup lost it's roof! Troup is out of school today as downtown still is without power. **Savannah went with our neighbor's to see them lift the roof~not sure were they are going to put it!**

Let us continue to lift up all the many families that were touched by Ike. My goodness the devastation that Ike caused is indescribable. We are counting our blessings and know how fortunate we were. I'm so glad to be hearing from all you fellow bloggers out there that was in Ike's path as well.

WE MADE IT!

We made it through Ike! We lost power yesterday about 1:30 and it didn't come back on till 8:30 or so last night. We played cards, read and had some great family time! We even had a picnic on the floor! The good thing about where we live is we have natural gas, so I could still cook and we still had the water. I would say the wind gusts got to around 60 mph, they were bad, we really aren't' sure what they were. We did loose 1/2 of our barn, the feed room half. So during the storm we were out there picking up feed and getting panels around it so the horses wouldn't get in there. The horses thankfully were not up in the barn at the time it happened. Thank goodness! We also have numerous branches, limbs all over the place. Hubby just called me into the den and on the news it was saying Troup was hit pretty hard, tons of huge trees down and Harry's Building Supply got it's roof torn right off. Thankfully none of the limbs, roofs had hit any other people, homes, etc. We were really blessed that it was just our barn and not worse. It is such a scary thing when you think about it. God sure did protect us and our animals. I'm glad to start hearing from you all that was in the path of Ike. Praying that everyone is safe and look forward to catching up with you all. We are planning on going to 2nd service this morning, we have ALOT to be thankful for. We also need to lift up all the many people that Ike affected.

HUNKERED DOWN FOR IKE!!

Wanted to do a quick post. Thanks for all your prayers and concerns for us! This morning it was already drizzling rain and windy. It is around 10:30 now and it is a steady rain and windy with gusts I would guess around 20 mph. Ike is supposed to be right over us around 2-3 p.m. this afternoon. Right now they are saying anywhere from 4-10 inches of rain and windy with gusts from 40-80+. Oh and tornadoes and lighting. I know I am nervous about the whole thing, little cowgirl is as well. I don't mind weather, just don't like severe weather! Trying to keep a normal routine so she will be calm, as me too! I am hooked up and ready to load up if needed. Moved truck and trailer into the pasture to get it away from the trees. Horses are still turned out and grazing right now. Eventually they will be put up and monitored very closely. They are such great indicators on when the weather is going to get bad. And yes I'm one of the ones that stays with her horses! I've spent a many of hours in the barn! I'm glad blogger has auto save, because as I was just typing the power blinked off and then right back on. I'm sure that will get worse the closer Ike gets. I will be posting again as soon as Ike has moved on. Praying for all the many people that Ike has affected and will. Be safe and God Bless! :)

Finally I got to go out and shoot my new baby! Got it last week and between the weather and just being plain busy, haven't got to try it out. We went down to our farm and set up a target and practiced some.

Me shooting it! I will have to say it is sweet! Love it Mrs. Mom! It is very easy to shoot! I am going to have to practice and get used to the sights. But we are VERY happy with it!!!

I took my bow and got some practice in on it as well. Hubby went crazy with the camera! He insisted I put this one in!

I used to do target competitions with my bow before I had my Little Cowgirl. I love shooting it! Hubby wouldn't shoot it though, he said he was a cowboy and not a Indian! He shoots a rifle! LOL! I think he was just scared I would show him up! We had a great time practicing, would have shot more, but ran out of bullets! We also took the rifle and shot it some. Ya he said I jacked it up! Got a bullet stuck in the action! He said it will do that if you don't eject the shells just right, well you think he should have told me that before I shot it! Well, better run we are going to eat lunch with little cowgirl!

LABOR DAY

Not much going around here for the holiday! Little cowgirl is out of school today, but hubby is working! :( Planning on having brisket, pasta salad, beans and key lime pie for supper. Yesterday after church mowed the grass, it needed it bad! Wanted to get it done before we got any rain from the hurricane. Today rode "Grey" this morning and he did very well. Pulled 3 tires out of the pasture and worked on turning and facing as well. Hoping to get to rope off him in the next week or so, interested to see how he does. I have taken him to a sorting and he did okay, he doesn't have alot a cow to him. He is really coming along with the reining, working barrels as they are going to be at our next play day. He really is a natural at turning the can! Also did alot of loping reining exercises.

Rode him down the road to cool him off and came across the armadillo again! **So Chris (aka Frazzled Farm Wife) here he is!

What is it about getting a new manure fork?? They are suddenly really excited about helping?!?!? She told her teacher the other day her favorite chore was poop scooping! LOL!

Taking poop to our drop off spot at the back of the pasture. She loves going there with me, so she and "Shelby" can ride back in the cart!

GREY 14th RIDE!!

Today I put the 14th ride on "Grey." (we are alittle behind on our rides due to the mega rain we got this past week!) We did our normal work: reining, pattern work, loping and lead changes. I got him pretty hot and thought well we will just go down the road to cool off and see what we find! And it is way more fun than cooling down in our boring pasture! Change of scenery is a great thing!

We have great big bar ditches, so you don't have to ride right up on the road. He's spotted something in the distance! What is it you may ask? A man mowing his ditch. We passed a dead armadillo as well and tons of truckers driving by honking! I think I knew about half of them and the others you just never know about! LOL!!

Bridge #1~I took this after we had already crossed it and was turned around heading back across!! Trust me you don't want to come off this thing!

Bridge #2~this is at a entrance of a real nice house on the highway. I love this bridge, it is wooden and open underneath, with water flowing. So it makes some noise when they go across, great training tool! He never slowed down and it didn't seem to faze him! *This house reminds me of a racehorse training facility. Never been done in there to see what it looks like though, they moved in from the city. It has a gated entrance, equipped with locks, speaker box and a monitor! High tech I tell ya!! One of these days they are going to come over the speaker and ask me what in the world am I doing and tell me to stay off there bridge!

"Grey" is like I think I know you? This is the colt that lives at his house. Every time we pass his house he looks over and says Hi! LOL! Right after we visited we started our way back home. There is a nice piece of open area, so I kicked him over into a nice lope and we headed home. And guess who we passed? The owner~he was honking and just waving away! LOL!! By the time I made it home, he was pulling in to my driveway! He came down to check on our progress and tell us how good we were looking! LOL! I'm so glad he is happy with the way he is progressing. Now back to housework and trying to get caught up around here!

1st Day of 1st Grade!

I can not believe today was little cowgirl's 1st day of 1st grade! Doesn't even seem possible that she should be that old!! Meet the Teacher was Friday night and her teacher seems to be real nice! When I took her this morning, it was amazing to see how "big" she seemed. So different from her 1st day of Kindergarten! My little girl is growing up too fast! She had a great 1st day of school and really is excited about this year. I know with this new school year we need to remember to pray for our children, classmates and the teachers.

GREY-9th ride this morning!

Today was "Grey's" 9th ride and he did very well. We did reining, poles, barrels, loping, water, etc. Here we are practicing our ground tying skills-A++ I left him for awhile and walked away pretty far~I zoomed in for the picture. I just LOVE a horse that ground ties.

Look no hands! He is not at all bothered by this! Right before she took the picture his ears were back listening to me!

Today we introduced the ball to him, no problem he says! My lovely little assistant rolls it into him from all sides and underneath-A++! And of course she takes alittle time to play while doing it!

My little assistant insisted on taking a picture of me and "Grey!!" I'm thinking he may also be alittle bit of a ham!!! LOL!

Little assistant climbs abroad to help with the cool down! She's also sporting a new gap~she lost another tooth this morning! Excuse the sweat! It was hot and the humidity was high this morning!

*Last but not least** This is for you Susan (aka Painted Promise)~I finally remembered to take a picture of the neighbor's donkeys for you! Right before I took the picture they were just a playing with each other! They sure are curious little boogers!!!

Yesterday was our monthly church play day! It wasn't too hot, as there was a nice breeze till the last event and then it started getting alittle warm. I hauled "Angel" & "Grey". "Grey" is a ~8 year old horse that I am putting 30 rides on. He has been turned out in the pasture for 2 1/2 + years and not sure of his training before that. Yesterday was his 5th ride. He did great, I'm very proud. The new owner was not happy with his neck reining, let me just say he didn't neck rein at all! Any who he did a great job on all the events which were poles, potato race and keyhole race. No pics from the potato race for some reason they all turned out blurred. We did 3 speed events yesterday, due to the heat. I took it slow and easy on him, we trotted the patterns and then slow loped home. There was alittle boy riding a pony that ran up his rear end and almost took my leg off and "Grey" just stood there, I was impressed! "Angel"~what can I say, she's my girl!! That was our best pole run we have ever done~1st place! Keyhole race~1st place and would have had 1st place in the potato race, but I knocked the barrel over! UGH! Dang knee~it was pilot error~I pulled her too close to the barrel! Oh well! All in all we had a great day and fun that is what counts!!

"Grey" doing poles~I normally don't like being this wide! But for him I was just glad he was neck reining! WOO HOO! And it was the first time he had done them!

Keyhole race~It is hard to see in the pic, but there is lime on the ground in the shape of a keyhole. The object is to walk your horse through the opening of the keyhole and spin them and come back out. You can not let your horse step out of the lime or it is a no time!

"Grey" did good on it~but when we he saw the lime on the ground he backed up and looked at it like-What is that? But I encouraged him on and he went in.

One wore out little cowgirl! I couldn't figure out why it was so quiet in the backseat and then I turned around and see this!

Yesterday we got the call that cows were out, just great! It is 103 degrees then plus the heat index, in the middle of the day, UGH! So we caught horses, saddled and headed out. And yes we wore long sleeves, leggings and hats. You will see if you don't you will be cut from head to toe and more than likely get poison ivy!

Heading out~"Roo" striking a pose for the camera! We had just entered neighbor's pasture at this gate.

Riding threw the clear cut looking for signs of cows, none! Just a bunch of feathers! (he used chicken manure!) Hubby trying to cut his way through the vines. Needless to say his place is overgrown! I am a nice wife and let hubby go first! Doesn't always work as I had to cut myself and "Angel" free a couple of times!

Wait what is that I see? I think it is one of the wild bovines we are looking for! Oh and look there is more!

We finally saw the cows~they had brushed up in the woods. So I went to may spot and hubby went to find a way to get behind them and push them out. My job is to be seen and count the cows! When he got all of them out, we started easing them through the pasture and back around to the gate. I had to put my camera up as I had to run ahead and open the gate! We got all the cows back to where they belonged and didn't get heat stroke doing it! LOL!! We had been checking fence as we were riding through our place to get to the neighbor's gate and hadn't seen any fence down. Come to find out he had just had some of his place clear cut and had planted some hay and the workers (idiots!) had left the gate open. That is good news to find out, as that means we were done and didn't have to fix fence!!! Woo Hoo!

RANCH RODEO

On Saturday we had a ranch rodeo in Henderson that another cowboy church was putting on. The events were cowhide race, ranch penning, doctoring, wild cow milking and branding. We had a great time and did well. Had some bad draws on cows, but had fun anyways! That is just how it is when you are working with cows! It is always a great time of fellowship as we know a lot of the teams and get to visit and support each other! Another surprise was my Dad showed up to watch! I almost feel over, he thinks I'm going to get hurt on the horses, so he never comes! I told my team in the grand entry, please don't let this be the day I get hurt! LOL! I gave him my camera and he took some pictures. He didn't get alot of the action, but got pics none the less. It is hard to watch and get good pics! It has taken me years of tweaking it! Thanks Dad it meant alot to me that you came and supported me. Savannah had a great time hanging out with PaPa! Oh and he didn't get pics of the cowhide race! He said it was too fast! LOL! Just so you know I did have dirt in places I didn't know you could get dirt! But man it was fun!

Waiting at the line in the penning! You had to sort one head out and then drive it down to a pen at the other end of the arena!

Branding~had to get as many head branded in 2 minutes that you could! We got 2 done~almost 3!! You really find out how much your roper likes his ground crew! They had that you could either heel or neck catch the calves. Well, hubby heeled only, it makes it so much easier on the calf and your ground crew!

No rodeo would be complete without some face painting!!! They had a mock rodeo for the kiddos to do! Savannah had a blast! I came up into the stands to visit when we broke for the church service! What is that look I'm getting?!?!?! I really should have had him take a picture of how dirty I was!

At the line for the doctoring~you have to sort designated head out and then head and heel. Flank, take ropes off and mark there head, in 2 minutes.

Wild cow milking~you had one person horseback to rope and the other 3 on the ground. Everyone was saying they aren't going to be bad! They weren't until they realized they were roped! We got it done and I got milk! Once you took the rope off you better be moving, they were on the fight!
